The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has arraigned one Henry Esowane before Justice G.C. Anulude of the Anambra State High Court, Onitsha on an 8-count charge for fraudulently presenting himself as capable of offering admission to prospective candidates into the Enugu State University of Technology.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge. Counsel to the EFCC, Moses Arumeni asked the court to fix a date for trial and that the accused be remanded in prison custody. The defence counsel E.O.Isiu objected. He told the court to admit his client to bail, assuring that he will make himself available for trial. He claimed that the accused was not healthy to be remanded and that the offence committed is a bailable one.
However, Arumeni opposed the oral application for bail. He said he was served the bail application on the day of arraignment and needed time to respond.
Justice Anulude, after listening to the arguments of counsel on both sides, adjourned proceedings to July 17 for hearing of the bail application, and remanded the accused in prison custody.
