The Directorate of Media and Public Affairs is the communication and public enlightenment arm of the commission. It has the responsibility for informing and educating the public about the activities of the Commission as well as initiating and executing measures to prevent the commission of economic and financial Crimes
The Directorate which is headed by a Deputy Director comprise the following sections:
• Media & Publicity Unit
The unit is the corporate communication arm of the Commission. It has responsibility for publicising the activities of the EFCC and ensuring a positive image for the Commission.
• Enlightenment & Reorientation Unit
Function of E&R as provided by the EFCC Act
The E & R is tasked with the adoption of measures which includes coordinated preventive and regulatory actions, introduction and maintenance of investigative and control techniques on the prevention of economic and financial related crimes. It is also tasked with carrying out and sustaining rigorous public enlightenment campaign against economic and financial crimes within and outside Nigeria.
Objectives of E&R
i. Creating public awareness on the evil of corruption, economic and financial crimes through effective public education and enlightenment.
ii. Fostering public support for and engagement in EFCC activities.
iii. Achieving public abhorrence of corruption, economic and financial crimes through effective citizen's participation.
iv. Providing effective corruption prevention services to public and private sector organizations.
v. Liaisons with citizens and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) towards the anti-corruption campaign.
• Public Interface Unit
The Public Interface Section of the Department is saddled with the management of the Commission's virtual interface including maintaining the website and other online presence on social media platforms. It is also in charge of the physical, face-to-face interface with members of the public, who walk through the gates of EFCC.The Public Interface Section of the Department is saddled with the management of the Commission's virtual interface including maintaining the website and other online presence on social media platforms. The officers of the Section handle all enquiries about the Commission's mandate and activities, coming from stakeholders within Nigeria and all over the world via direct person-to-person contacts, EFCC hotlines and social media platforms.
Functions of P.I.
i. Presents the activities and services of the commission to on-line audience.
ii. Monitors stories about the commission from on-line newspapers, websites / blogs etc and respond immediately to correct any negative and false information about the Commission.
iii. Initiates on-line media campaigns on the activities and services of the Commission on our Media & Publicity sites and blogs and social media pages.
iv. Educates and initiate enlightenment campaigns about the activities of the Commission on-line where the need arises with our followers.
v. Engages the public in an interactive manner on our sites
vi. Provides "Breaking News" emanating from the Commission e.g. convictions, collaborative visits, etc.
vii. Enhances the image of the Commission positively using the appropriate tools.
viii. Coordinates, upload and organize information to be provided on the Public Affairs multimedia website.
