Refugees Commission Seeks EFCC’s Support

The National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, NCFRMI, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to support it in fulfilling its mandate which is catering to the needs of refugees and asylum seekers, internally displaced and stateless persons. The Honourable Federal Commissioner, Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim made the appeal on Thursday January 13, 2021, during a courtesy visit to the corporate headquarters of the Commission. She specifically requested for the assistance of the EFCC in securing office accommodation and opportunity for her staff to train at the Commission’s Academy in Karu, Abuja. Hajia Ibrahim further implored the Commission to factor the plight of refugees and internally displaced persons it her corporate social responsibility considerations.
Earlier, the Refugees Commission boss disclosed that she had launched a strategic framework designed to turn around the fortunes of the Commission. She spoke passionately about the Project Zero Hunger aimed at meeting the needs of the most vulnerable and the Project Reliance which is a collaborative effort with the Central Bank of Nigeria to turn around the fortunes of the Commission and improve the condition of persons that depend on her services.
New EFCC Board Inaugurated

A 23-member board of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday, January 13, 2022, inaugurated at a modest but brief ceremony in Abuja. Performing the inauguration on behalf of the Federal Government, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, congratulated members on their appointment which he said, was a demonstration of the confidence of the President in their integrity, intellectual abilities and competence to contribute to the mandate of the Commission.
“You are, however, required to put in your best to combat financial and economic crimes in the country. The Commission is empowered to prevent, investigate, prosecute and penalise economic and financial crimes and is charged with the responsibility of enforcing the provisions of other laws and regulations relating to economic and financial crimes, as well as fight terrorism.
Man Bags One Year Jail Term for Contract Scam in Borno

The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today, January 13, 2022 secured the conviction and sentencing of one Modu Kotoko to one year imprisonment before Justice Fadawu Umar of the State High Court, Maiguduri on a one-count amended charge which bordered on cheating to the tune of N10million (Ten Million Naira).
The convict was first arraigned on the 29th of January, 2021 on a count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and he pleaded not guilty, leading to the commencement of trial.
At the sitting on January 12, 2022, prosecution counsel, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed informed the court of the amended charge that was premised on the willingness of the defendant to enter into a ‘plea bargain agreement’ with the anti-graft agency. Consequently, the court ordered the defendant to take his plea to the amended charge.
EFCC Hands Over Recovered N3.6m to Victim in Gombe

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Gombe Zonal Command, on January 12, 2022 handed over a cheque of Three Million, Six Hundred and Thirty-Nine Thousand, Five Hundred Naira (N3, 639,500) to a retired Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Adamawa state.
The victim, Alhaji Muhammed Mubi, 86 year old, received the cheque at his Yola residence, from Abdullahi Suraiju, Head, Foreign Exchange Malpractice Section (FEMS), on behalf of the Commander, Gombe Zonal Command, Babashani Umar Sanda.
Fake Lawyer in EFCC Net For Forgery, Impersonation

Operatives of the Lagos Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested a fake lawyer, Adekola Adekeye, whose stock-in-trade is forging documents to perpetrate fraud.
Adekeye’s travail began on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 when he came to the Lagos Command of EFCC posing as a lawyer to secure the bail of a suspected fraudster who is in the Commission’s custody.
