EFCC Arraigns Suspects over Dud Cheque

The Ibadan Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, November 16th, 2018 arraigned one Hamed Hamid Olakunle alongside his School, Manbo-Mac Schools, before Justice M. L. Owolabi of the State High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State on a two-count charge bordering on issuance of dud cheque.


The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

One of the charges preferred against him reads, ”that you, Hamed Hamid Olakunle  and Mambo-Mac Schools, in June 2018, within the jurisdiction of this court issued a Skye Bank Plc cheque dated 13th day of June, 2018 for the sum of Four Hundred and Thirty-six Thousand Naira (N436, 000: 00) only, in settlement of your financial obligation to First City Monument Bank and draw-able on Account No. 2852621018 with FCMB, which when presented for payment within three months, was dishonoured on the ground that the account on which the cheque was drawn was not funded and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1(1) (b) of the Dishonoured Cheques (Offenses) Act, Cap D11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under Section 1(1)(b)(i) of the same Act.

In view of his plea, the prosecuting counsel, Harrison Ibekwute sought the leave of the court for a trial date. The defence counsel, Niyi Ehinonla moved his bail application which the prosecution counsel did not oppose the and prayed the court for a near trial date.

Justice Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the sum of five thousand naira with two sureties in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till December 3, 2018 for the commencement of trial.
