EU, UK, Others Support EFCC Strategic Plan

International partners of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 joined the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, to unveil the Commission's Strategic Plan (2021-2025) which is targeted at improving its performance.
The Plan which is designed in line with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2017 – 2021 and anchored on five pillars - Prevention, Public Engagement, Ethical Re-Orientation, Enforcement and Sanctions, Recovery and Management of Proceeds of Crime- is aimed at sustaining the EFCC’s commitment to continuous improvement to attain its vision.
The EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, in his opening address, said the Commission recognizes the importance of partnership with the public in achieving its mandate. “This is demonstrated in our commitment to continuous improvement and strengthening cooperation with all stakeholders consistent with objective 4 of the Strategic Plan”.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday 27th September, 2021 secured the conviction of one Kehinde Aliyu Odeniyi before Justice Kabir Dabo of the Kaduna State High Court sitting in Zaria on a two count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation.
Odeniyi, a marketer with a private company, was prosecuted by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC following investigation that he diverted N 3, 500,000.00 (Three Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira), property of the company where he works, for personal use.
Anti-graft War: Japan Pledges Support to EFCC

The Japanese government has pledged to support the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the fight against financial crimes. The Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Nigeria, Matsunaga Kazuyoshi made the pledge on Tuesday September 29, 2021 during a Courtesy Visit to Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa at EFCC headquarters Abuja.
The envoy who expressed delight at the professionalism of the EFCC, noted that the Commission’s efforts in helping a Japanese victim of scam to recover and repatriate a sum of 370,000 Yen to Japan early this year, was “the first case in Japan where the victim’s money remitted overseas was returned.”
N500m Fraud: Trial of Benue Electoral Commission Chairman and Others, Court Adjourned Till Nov. 16

Justice Abdu Dogo of the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, has adjourned the trial of Benue Electoral Commission Chairman, Loko Tersoo Joseph and others to 16th and 17th November, 2021.
The BESIEC officers are being prosecuted by the Makurdi Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a 23-count charge bordering on conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, misappropriation, forgery and money laundering to the tune of N500,000,000 (Five Hundred Million Naira only).
Anti-graft War: UK, EFCC to Deepen Cooperation

The United Kingdom and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have restated their resolve to further strengthen the existing cooperation and partnership between them in the fight against economic crimes and corruption. This indication was the high point of discussion on Tuesday September 29, 2021 when the United Kingdom High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, visited the EFCC Headquarters, Abuja.
The UK envoy who expressed her admiration for the young and talented Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, said the UK was serious about returning ill-gotten gains and preventing it from happening in the first place. She recalls past support of the UK government to the EFCC and the fight against corruption in Nigeria through the Combined Inter Agency Task Force. “We remain strong partners and we are here to support you”, she said.
