Trinity Biotech Trial: EFCC Accuses Defence of Delay Tactics

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, 10 January, 2023, expressed displeasure with the antics of counsel to Trinity Biotech Nigeria Limited, Michael Ajara, accusing him of attempting to delay trial.
Trinity Biotech Nigeria Limited, one of the over thirty companies associated with $9.6b Process and Industrial Development, P&ID, fraud, is facing a six count amended charge bordering on money laundering and failure to comply with the money laundering requirements alongside directors of the company: James Nolan(at large), Adam Quinn(at large) and Gerrard Nash(also at large), before Justice D.U. Okorowo of the Federal High Court Abuja.

EFCC Arrest 21-Year-old for Alleged €17,000 Fraud

Operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested one Irabor Kennedy Osasogie for alleged fraud.
The 21-years old was arrested recently by the Commission following a petition by one Antje, a German citizen, complaining that the suspect defrauded her of €17,000. The petitioner claimed that she met Osasogie through social media after she was defrauded of €68,000 by one Michael Patrick. She alleged that Osasogie offered to assist her in recovering the money but further defrauded her of €17,000.

For the third time in as many months, Aisha Alkali Wakil has been convicted for fraud as Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, sitting in Maiduguri, on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, convicted and sentenced her alongside Tahiru Saidu Daura, and Prince Lawal, to 10 years imprisonment for conspiracy, cheating and obtaining N 120,500,000.00 by false pretence.
The defendants were arraigned by the Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, on five count amended charges.

Internet Fraudster Bags Jail Term, Forfeits Cars to FG

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, secured the conviction of one Thomas Osigbemeh, an internet fraudster, before Justice Efe Ikponmwonba of Edo State High Court, Benin City.
Osigbemeh was arraigned on one count charge of personation by the Benin Zonal Command of the Commission.
The charge against him reads: "that you, Thomas Osigbemeh sometime between 2019 to 2020 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did with intent to defraud represent yourself to be Jichag Wook, a verified and legitimate Bitcoin Trader and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 484 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 48 Laws of Bendel State of Nigeria (As applicable in Edo State) 1976.

EFCC Trains Kaduna LG Officers on Accountability

The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday concluded a two-day training programme on accountability and transparency for different cadre of officers in the 23 Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, including chairmen, finance officers, among others. The programme with the theme, "Enhancing Fiscal Discipline in Local Government Administration," held from 19th to 20th, December, 2022 at Butterfly Hotel in Kaduna.
Declaring the programme open, Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe advised participants to be attentive and ensure the knowledge acquired during the programme impacts their duties, adding that the state government was committed to reforming local government administration in the state.
Officers drawn from key operational units of the Command made presentations at the two day programme. ACEII Sadiq Abubakar, who presented a paper on "Understanding the Concept of Money Laundering” warned the officers on the perils of diverting public resources to personal use, as he highlighted the various laws regulating the conduct of public expenditures and the responsibilities of public officers for compliance with extant laws and regulations.
