Court Adjourns for Adoption of Final Addresses in First Nation MD, Kayode Odukoya’s Alleged N1.7bn Fraud Trial

Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, November 10, 2022, adjourned till March 8, 2023 for the adoption of final written addresses in the alleged N1.7 billion fraud case involving Kayode Odukoya, Chief Executive Officer, First Nation Airways Limited.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is prosecuting Odukoya alongside First Nation Airways Limited and Bellview Airlines Limited on a seven-count charge bordering on forgery, use of false document, perjury, stealing and obtaining credit by fraud, contrary to Sections 85(1), 86(1), 278(1)&(b), 285(1), 313(1)(a) &(b), 361(1)(a)& (b), 363 (1) and 364(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
One of the counts reads: “Kayode Odukoya and First Nation Airways, on or about the 29th day of August, 2013 in Lagos, within the lkeja Judicial Division, by means of fraud, obtained the credit of N307,268,406.43 for yourselves from Skye Bank Plc (Now Polaris Bank Ltd) and made the bank to incur liability by presenting a Memorandum of Loss at Lagos State Certificate of Occupancy registered as No.33 at page 33 in Volume 1011 at the Lagos State Registry, Alausa, Ikeja in respect of property being and situate at No. 29 Oduduwa Street, lkeja GRA. Lagos State."
$1.3m Fraud: Court Adjourns Till Dec 5 for Arraignment of Zaura

Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court, Kano on Thursday, November 10, 2022 adjourned till December 5, 2022 for arraignment and hearing of other applications by Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura.
Zaura is due to be arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in line with the Court of Appeal, Kano Division’s ruling which quashed his acquittal of a $1.3million fraud charge in June 2020 by Justice A.l Allagoa of the Federal High Court.
In a unanimous decision, a three man panel of justices led by Justice Abdullahi M. Bayero said the lower court erred in acquitting the defendant and directed his retrial before another judge. But Zaura has so far failed to appear in court for arraignment on two previous occasions.

The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of one Mathew Nwanosike before Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court on a one count charge bordering on identity theft.
Mathew who confessed to have defrauded several victims under various guises, met his Waterloo when he faked the identity of a foreign building contractor named Brian Robert.
Copyright Commission Seeks EFCC’s Support in Curbing Intellectual Property Fraud

The Director, Nigeria Copyright Commission, NCC, Port Harcourt Office, Mr. Collins Osundu Nweke, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to throw its weight behind his Commission in tackling intellectual property fraud.
He made the call on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while on a Courtesy Visit to the Port Harcourt Zonal Commander of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE Nwanneka Nwokike. According to him, the EFCC is a strong partner in fighting copyright crimes and enhanced collaboration between the two agencies will greatly boost the work of the NCC.
“.... EFCC happens to be our strong partner when it comes to fighting issues of copyright crimes… we are particularly interested in information and intelligence sharing”, he said. Nweke identified an intricate linkage among organized crime, money laundering and copyright piracy and called for an end to plagiarism.
EFCC Presents N41.1bn 2023 Budget Proposal to House of Reps

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, presented an estimate of N41,120,071,521.75 (Forty One Billion, One Hundred and Twenty Million, Seventy One Thousand, Five Hundred and Twenty One Naira, Seventy Five Kobo) as its budget for the year 2023 to the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes.
A breakdown of the estimate shows the sum of N36,834,903,804.75 (Thirty Six billion, Eight Hundred and Thirty Four million, Nine Hundred and Three Thousand, Eight Hundred and Four Naira, Seventy Five Kobo) only as Personnel cost; while the sum of N3,835,460,631.00 (Three Billion, Eight Hundred and Thirty Five Million, Four Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Six Hundred and Thirty One Naira) is for overhead, and N530,707,086.00 (Five Hundred and Thirty Million, Seven Hundred and Seven Thousand, Eighty Six Naira) earmarked as Capital vote.
