Alleged N36bn Fraud: Turaki Not Acquitted- EFCC

The October 13, 2022 ruling of the Federal High Court Dutse, striking out the money laundering charges brought against Saminu Turaki, a former governor of Jigawa State by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC does not amount to an acquittal. This clarification became imperative in view of widespread media reports purporting that the former governor had been discharged and acquitted of the charges preferred against him by the Commission.
Justice Hassan Dikko in striking out the case on Thursday, premised his decision on the absence of the EFCC prosecutor in court and stated that the Commission is at liberty to proceed with the case when it is ready. Without prejudice to the decision by his Lordship, his position was not premised on the weight of the evidence by the prosecution or the lack of it. The substantive issues have not even been canvassed before his Lordship.
Two ATM Fraudsters Bag Three Years in Kano

Justices Maryam Sabo and Abdu Maiwada of the Kano State High Court have convicted and sentenced David Omoude Victor and Abba Ahmad Ibrahim to three years imprisonment for Automated Teller Machine, ATM fraud.
They were jailed on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, based on their pleas of "guilty" to one-count separate charge, upon being arraigned by the Kano Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Court Jails former Banker in Port Harcourt

Justice A. T. Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has convicted and sentenced a former banker, Emeka Okafor, to one year imprisonment, for forgery and uttering of documents.
He was jailed on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 after pleading guilty to two -count charges, bordering on forgery and uttering of documents, when arraigned by the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Mechanic Bags 12 Months Imprisonment for Cybercrime in Kwara

Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of Kwara State High Court, Ilorin on Thursday, October 13, 2022, sentenced a 27-year-old Mechanic, Adebayo Muhamed Bolaji to twelve months imprisonment, having found him guilty of offences bordering on cybercrime and possession of fraudulent funds.
Adebayo, who hails from Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State was arraigned on a two-count charge before the court on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Adebayo’s journey to the Nigerian Correctional Centre started on September 15, 2022 when the Commission acting on intelligence about the activities of some internet fraudsters operating along Airport Road, Ilorin effected his arrest.

Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Dr. George Ekpungu has called on youths across the country to see the Commission as a government agency working in the best interests of Nigerians, to rid the nation of all forms of economic and financial crimes.
He made the call on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at the Corporate Headquarters of the EFCC, Abuja while receiving a delegation from Legislative Mentorship Initiative that came on a study tour. According to him , the EFCC is on a path of redemption and every Nigerian should collaborate with it to deliver on its mandate.
“Let the public not see the EFCC as ‘We’ and ‘Them’ or ‘They’ and ‘We’. It is we-we because without us doing what we are doing, the society will not be a better place for all of us'', he said. He further called on youths to shun all forms of indiscipline, greed and get-rich syndrome stressing that they are the roots of economic and financial crimes. He pointed out that every religion abhors corrupt practices.
