Four Internet Fraudsters Convicted in Port Harcourt

The Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, secured the conviction and sentencing of four internet fraudsters to various terms before Justices P. I. Ayua, A. T. Mohammed, P. I. Ajoku and S. I. Mark of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State
The convicts are: Brima Edegba, Nicholas Chris Chibuike, Omagbemi Jeffrey and Andrew Idigo.
They were convicted on a separate one count charge of impersonation contrary to section 22 (2) b (i) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2) (iv) of the same Act.
EFCC Presents N41.1bn Proposal to Senate as 2023 Budget

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa on Thursday, October 27, 2022, presented an estimate of N41,120,071,521.75 (Forty One Billion, One Hundred and Twenty Million, Seventy One Thousand, Five Hundred and Twenty One Naira, Seventy Five Kobo) as its budget for the year 2023.
He explained that the proposal comprise the sum of N36,834,903,804.75 (Thirty Six billion, Eight Hundred and Thirty Four million, Nine Hundred and Three Thousand, Eight Hundred and Four Naira, Seventy Five Kobo) only as Personnel cost; while the sum of N3,835,460,631.00 (Three Billion, Eight Hundred and Thirty Five Million, Four Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Six Hundred and Thirty One Naira) and N530,707,086.00 (Five Hundred and Thirty Million, Seven Hundred and Seven Thousand, Eighty Six Naira) represent the Overhead and Capital vote component.
EFCC Hails CBN, Moves to Clampdown on Currency Hoarders

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has applauded the move by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to redesign and re-issue higher denominations of the Nigerian Currency, the Naira. Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele announced that the apex bank had obtained the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari to resign and issue new N200, N500 and N1000 notes that shall come into circulation by the 15th of December, 2022.
Responding to the development, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa described the move by the apex bank as “a well-considered and timely response” to the challenges of currency management which has negatively impacted the country’s monetary policy and security imperatives. “The EFCC, the CBN and some other regulators in the financial sector have worked closely in the recent past to determine how best to stabilize the country’s monetary policy environment. It is heart-warming that the CBN has demonstrated courage in taking this bold decision which I believe will bring sanity to the currency management situation in Nigeria”, he said.
NCS Commends Bawa for Digitalizing EFCC

The Nigeria Computer Society, NCS, has commended the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa for digitalizing the operations of the Commission.
The president of the society, Professor Adesina Simon Sodiya gave the commendation on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, during a visit to the corporate headquarters of the Commission in Jabi, Abuja.
“The comments we have been hearing from our members about the digitalization of the EFCC by Bawa’s led administration of the Commission is commendable, and that is why we came to congratulate him on this milestone,” he said.
EFCC Docks Internet Fraudster in Lagos

The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, arraigned one Oke Ayomipo David before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on a two-count charge bordering on possession of documents containing false pretence, contrary to Section 6 and 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Fraud Offences Act 2006.
One of the counts reads: “Oke Ayomipo David, sometime in the month of July 2022 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, had in your possession documents containing false pretences, wherein you falsely represented yourself as Hudson Mieogro, an American, for the purpose of defrauding innocent victims, which document you knew to be false."
