Court Jails Ponzi scheme Operator 7 Years in Port Harcourt

Justice A.T. Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has convicted and sentenced a fake Ponzi Scheme operator: Umoren Moses Edet to seven years imprisonment for obtaining money under false pretense and issuance of dud cheques.
He was convicted on Friday June 18, 2021 after being found guilty of one-count charge bordering on advance fee fraud. He was originally arraigned on Thursday, June 28, 2018 on the same one- count charge and he pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charge, leading to a trial that lasted three years.

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, reiterated the Commission’s resolve to work with the National Lottery Trust Fund in combatting corruption in the lottery industry.
The EFCC chair who spoke through the Director of Operations, Abdulkarim Chukkol, stated this when the Executive Secretary, National Lottery Trust Fund, Dr. Bello Maigari paid him a courtesy visit at the Commission’s headquarters, Jabi Abuja.
EFCC Docks Man for N99.7m Fraud in Maiduguri

The Maiduguri Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, June 21, 2021 arraigned one Alhaji Kyari Mohammed before Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri on a two-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of N99, 750,000.00 (Ninety Nine Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira).
The defendant was arraigned alongside his company, Kyari and Sons Company Nigeria Limited.
Human Trafficking: Bawa Advocates Strengthening of Enforcement Activities

The Executive Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 advocated strengthening of investigation and prosecution activities as a measure to curb the menace of human trafficking and smuggling.
According to him, strengthening prosecution, will “uphold the rule of law, ensure community safety, protect victims and help to prevent future crime by convicted offenders.”
Court Convicts Architect, One Other For Impersonation in Abeokuta

Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday June 21, 2021, convicted the duo of Oluwole Gbenga Caleb and Ayoola Oluwafemi for fraudulent impersonation. The offence runs contrary to Section 22(2) (b) (i) and is punishable under Section 22(2) (b) (IV) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.
They were convicted on a separate one count charge of fraudulent impersonation preferred against them by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
