Court Adjourns for Adoption of Final Address in Femi Adesina’s Impostor, Suspected KWASU Fraudster Cases

Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, at a resumed sitting on pending cases on Wednesday adjourned till June 30, 2021 for adoption of written addresses in a fraud case involving a self-styled herbalist, Jamiu Isiaka, who allegedly impersonated the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina and a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Maikanti Baru, to defraud a South-Korean National, Keun Sig Kim, to the tune of N30million.
The judge also fixed July 8, 2021 for adoption of final written address by counsel in a case bordering on internet fraud involving one Atoyebi Ayodeji Blessing, a student of the Kwara State University, KWASU, Molete.
Ex-Bank PHB MD, Atuche Jailed Six Years For N25.7bn Fraud

After 12 years of trial that witnessed many twists and turns, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, finally secured the conviction and sentencing of Francis Atuche, a former Managing Director of the defunct Bank PHB Plc ( now Keystone Bank), to six years imprisonment for N25.7bn fraud before Justice Lateefat Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja.
Justice Okunnu in a judgment that lasted over ten hours, also sentenced the defunct bank’s former Chief Financial Officer, CFO, Ugo Anyanwu, to four years imprisonment. The duo were convicted on 6 of the amended 27-count charge of conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing preferred against them by the EFCC.
EFCC, ABU Set to Implement MoU on Specialized Training Programmes for Staff

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, on Wednesday 16 June, 2021 reiterated the Commission`s readiness to implement the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, which it signed with the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to run specialized programmes relevant to the manpower needs of the EFCC.
He stated this when he received a delegation from the Ahmadu Bello University led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabir Bala at the Commission`s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

EFCC Lauds PENCOM Sensitization Efforts

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday June 16, 2021 commended the efforts of the National Pension Commission in sensitizing officials of government agencies on the contributory pension scheme. The Head of the Gombe Zonal Office, Babashani Umar Sanda who made the remark while opening a one-day sensitization lecture for staff of the Commission in Gombe, said the measure will help in holding accountable, those involved in pensions management and checking corruption in the sector.
