Enugu Student Bags 2 Years Imprisonment for Internet Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zonal Office on June 18, 2021 secured the conviction of one Emmanuel Umahi (a.k.a Eddy Morem), a student, before Justice I.M Buba of the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu, Enugu State on one count charge bordering on Criminal impersonation with the intend to defraud.
The charge reads, “that you Emmanuel Umahi sometime in June 2021 in Enugu within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, fraudulently impersonated @eddy_morem, a citizen of Croatia, using an Instagram Account, with intent to obtain money from unsuspecting foreign nationals and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22(3) (a) (b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22(4) of the same Act.”

The Nigerian Bar Association, Port Harcourt Branch, has expressed its desire to partner with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in its fight against corrupt practices.
This desire was expressed on Thursday, June 17, 2021 by the Chairman of the Association, Barrister Prince Nyekwere, while on a Courtesy Visit to the Port Harcourt Zonal Head of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE Aliyu Naibi. According to him, the EFCC " is a very important institution in Nigeria, fighting economic and financial crimes and that the NBA should be seen as a partner in progress. "We are ready to partner with the EFCC. Let the Commission take us as partners in progress and realise that as NBA, we want it to succeed in its assigned mandate", he said.
Anti-graft War: EFCC, CCB to Strengthen Collaboration

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB are to strengthen their collaboration in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
Speaking on Friday June 18, 2021 while receiving a delegation from the CCB led by its chairman, Professor Isah Mohammed in his office, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, promised to assist the CCB in training staff of the Bureau in the areas of administration, assets tracing and recovery as well as forensic investigation.
EFCC Charges Students to Shun All Forms of Corruption

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has charged students across Nigeria to shun all forms of corruption and resist attempt to be used by corrupt people to launder stolen funds.
The charge was given by Chris Oluka, Head, Public Affairs, Gombe Zonal office on Wednesday June 16, 2021 while delivering a lecture entitled, “Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing and Corruption in Nigeria“ at the Gombe State University, Gombe . ” You cannot afford to lose your identity by allowing yourself to be used to either launder stolen funds or support terrorism which has become the greatest problem facing Nigeria today especially in the North East, “he said.
EFCC Secures Convictions of Five Fraudsters in Sokoto

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Sokoto Zonal office on Thursday 17 June, 2021 secured the conviction of five internet fraudsters: Alfred Stephen, Onyebuchi Joseph Elijah ( a.k.a Svenulrich), Usman Mustapha, Abdullahi Abubakar (a.k.a Shine Eye) and Umar Khalifa on separate charges before Justice Muhammad Muhammad of the Sokoto State High Court, Sokoto.
They were prosecuted on a one count charge each bordering on conspiracy and cheating.
