Ex-Bauchi Accountant General Arraigned for N108m Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Gombe Zonal office today secured the conviction of Yusuf Ibrahim Gokaru, a former Bauchi State Accountant General, before Justice Muazu Abubakar of the Bauchi State High Court on charges bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, concealment of the source and origin of the money.
His troubles began in August 2019 when the Bauchi State Government, in a petition to the Commission, alleged that the convict abused his office as Accountant General and obtained the sum of One Hundred and Eight Million, Three Hundred and Sixty Three Thousand, Two Hundred Naira Only. (N108, 363, 200) for personal used.
The money was diverted from the World Bank assistance to Bauchi State Government under the State Education Programme Investment Project, SEPIP. The defendant transferred the money from Bauchi State Consolidated Naira Account domiciled at Polaris Bank to a Unity Bank account.
The offence is contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act.

Justice A.T. Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has convicted and sentenced Otiko Silas to three years imprisonment for illegally dealing in petroleum products without a requisite license.
Kaduna Court Grants Bail to Man Arraigned for N53m Fertilizer Scam

A Kaduna State High Court presided by Justice Mohammed Tukur on Wednesday April 7, 2021 granted bail to one Ibrahim Zailani Daneji who was arraigned by the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on a 15-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust to the tune of fifty three million naira ( N53,000,000.00).
Zailani, allegedly diverted 16 truck-load of fertilizers from Notore Chemical Industries Ltd, Rivers State, belonging to one Alhaji Kabiru Suleiman.
Count three of the charge reads: “that you Ibrahim Zailani Daneji sometime in March, 2019 in Kaduna within the Judicial jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, while entrusted with 600 bags of fertilizers ( loaded on truck with registration number: XB 927 AAK) worth the sum of three million, three hundred thousand naira only, being the property of one Alhaji Kabiru Suleiman disposed of same and converted the proceeds to your personal use and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 298 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017”.
EFCC, Military Police to Strengthen Partnership

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police have pledged to strengthen the cooperation between the two institutions. This understanding was the highpoint of the visit by the Provost Marshal of the Army, Brigadier-General OL Olayinka to the headquarters of the EFCC on Wednesday April 7, 2021.
General Olayinka who was received by the Director of Operations, Abdulkarim Chukkol on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, said he was in EFCC to introduce his team to the EFCC and congratulate the Executive Chairman on his appointment.
He commended the cooperation between the EFCC and the Nigeria Army Corps of Military Police, noting that the Corps has over the years benefitted from the Commission’s support especially in the area of forensic analysis. “We were going to establish our own forensic laboratory but we haven’t done that yet. We still rely on your forensic laboratory for analysis because we also deal with financial crimes”.
EFCC Hands Recovered ¥370, 000 to Japanese Victim of Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Thursday, April 1, 2021 handed over the sum of ¥370,000 Japanese Yen recovered from a fraudster, to the Japanese victim through officials of the Japanese Embassy, Abuja.
The money was recovered by the EFCC following a complaint by one Hatsumi Ozeki on January 19, 2019.
